Letter Campaign for the Arts

CDA is so thrilled that so many people answered the Canadian Arts Coalition’s call to send letters to MPS last fall.
The Campaign mobilized 10,456 people who sent 52,280 letters over five weeks.
The 2025–26 Campaign for Culture was a call on people to ensure that all Members of Parliament support investment in the Arts and Culture sector in Canada through new investments of $140 Million in the Canada Council for the Arts and $190 Million in Arts Programs of Canadian Heritage – and no cuts.
Not only did the Fall budget invest in cultural programs of Canadian Heritage (PCH), but the Canada Council for the Arts (CCA) was not cut, even though there had been a potential of a significant cut, and in fact, the CCA got an extremely modest budget increase.
The CDA continues to advocate for the full $140 million investment in the Canada Council because it has a large and lasting impact on the sector, from the individual artist and ad hoc collectives to the largest cultural institutions across the country.

❓ Why?
➡️ The Canada Council for the Arts and the Canadian Heritage budgets are at risk!
The Liberal government has asked all departments to come up with options for a 15% cut to their spending over the next two years.
A potential $54 million cut to the Canada Council for the Arts would be devastating. With 90% of its budget allocated to granting programs, such a reduction would directly impact dance organizations and individual artists across the country. Further cuts to the Department of Canadian Heritage would compound the damage, potentially affecting essential support for training programs or presentation opportunities for example.
These reductions would undermine the very ecosystem that supports Canada’s dance community.
⚡ We ask for an investment in the arts!
On the campaign trail, the Liberal party made promises about reinvesting in ways that grow our economy and our nation, including specific promises about the Canada Council for the Arts.
Investment is essential now and invites you to ask for:
— An increase of $140 million to the Canada Council for the Arts; and
— An increase of $190 million to the Department of Canadian Heritage
In this fiscal year, as part of a plan for the Government of Canada to permanently allocate at least 1% of its overall spending towards arts, culture, and heritage.
