All Bodies Dance Project

Since 2014, ABDP has been working at the intersection of community and professional dance practice through a process that questions “who has access to dance?” as makers, performers, and audience members. Our work celebrates diversity in all its forms—body, mind, age, gender, background, and experience—and redefines who belongs in dance. We view dancemaking as a way to build community and believe that dance practice strengthens our capacity to feel and spread joy.

Top image: Six dancers are moving a bright studio space with a wooden floor and large windows. In the centre of the image is a dancer using a power wheelchair wearing a flower print, long sleeve shirt and black pants. She is looking up at a standing dancer in front of her, who is moving in spiral motion. In the background, slightly out of focus, are two standing dancers, a seated dancer in a manual wheelchair and dancer on their knees. The image is full of activity and motion. The stage is dark, with a black floor, and they are lit in pink, blue, and purple lighting. There are dancers standing, dancers in manual and power wheelchairs, and dancers crouched on the floor. Everyone is wearing casual, grey and black clothing. As a group they are organized in a clump, all looking and gesturing up towards the ceiling. Most dancer are reaching their arms up and lifting their chests with a feeling of opening and suspending. It’s a dramatic moment, full of energy and momentum.
