Toronto, ON - On April 19th at 10:30am the Canadian Dance Assembly will officially launch the I love dance / J’aime la danse National Campaign and Canada’s first ever National Dance Week at Canada’s National Ballet School, 400 Jarvis St. in downtown Toronto.

This six year awareness campaign is dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the dance sector as an integral component to Canadian culture and embraces all dance forms and expressions. Celebrity Dance Ambassador Guillaume Côté, principal dancer for the National Ballet of Canada and Toronto City Councilor Josh Matlow will be participating in the Launch. The event will open with an elders blessing, and showcase performances by celebrated local artists Olga Barrios, Carlos Martinez Rivera, Kevin A. Ormsby and Gabriella Parson, and feature a short video montage highlighting National Dance Week.

Canada’s first ever National Dance Week takes place April 22-29, where one theme will be celebrated each day across Canada to embrace the rich and varied landscape of Canadian dance. Find the complete listing of activities taking place nationwide on www.destinationdancedanse.com

The much anticipated dance Manifesto will be unveiled at the launch. The Manifesto is the official message of the campaign and is written by dance critic Michael Crabb. This document expresses the core messages of the I love dance/J’aime la danse campaign, and encourages support for dance as an art form integral to our Canadian identity. The dance Manifesto is a declaration to be used nationwide and will appear in house programs and posters across the country over the next number of years. Support for the I love dance/J’aime la danse campaign is being celebrated by a simultaneous reading of the dance Manifesto in the chamber of the Ontario Legislature.
