Greetings from the Manitoba Arts and Cultural Alliance (MACA and formerly known as Culture Manitoba). MACA is now an officially incorporated body, established to advance arts, culture, heritage and creativity as essential elements of Manitoba’s prosperity and quality of life. As far as we can tell, a first in the province! The future strength of MACA lies in the size, diversity and involvement of its membership, which is open to all!Please

At a town hall meeting on May 15, approximately 40 people gathered to listen and discuss the future plans of the new organization. A founding board has been established in order to get the incorporation process completed leading to an Annual General Meeting and Board elections this fall.
Board of Directors (for incorporation purposes): Larry Desrochers, Alan Freeman, hannah godfrey, Randy Joynt, Katarina Kupca, Nicole Matiation, Thom Sparling, Sara Stasiuk. At its first meeting the Board elected an Executive Committee consisting of Randy Joynt as Chair, Thom Sparling as Vice-Chair and Sarah Stasiuk as Secretary/Treasurer. The board also appointed two members at large, Camilla Holland and Trudy Schroeder.
A duly elected Board of Directors
will be voted in at the AGM, look for notice of the nomination process which
will be in accordance with the by-laws.
MACA has started to work on key pillars identified by the community:
Encourage participation and engagement in all aspects of the creative sector. Potential Action: Develop educational campaign
Conduct research into how arts, culture, heritage and creativity impact the province. Potential Action: Cultural Evidence Project update
Share information among a diverse group of creative people working in the arts and cultural sector and with the community at large. Potential Actions: Creation of an information portal on website. Increasing size and scope of communications committee. Development of affinity groups and communications networks.
Emphasize the role of arts and culture in Manitoba’s well being, growth and development. Potential Actions: Day at the Leg, ArtsVote, Cultural Innovation Strategy for Province, pre-budget submission on behalf of MACA members
Determine services and needs of the community. Potential Action: Membership and needs survey to be developed.
MACA needs you to join as a member, but also to contribute your time to ensure that our actions can move forward.
