Holding Space, Holding

Embracing movements past and present to renew and sustain

General Description:

The Canadian Dance Assembly (CDA) and Atlantic Ballet are proud to come together to celebrate dance in Petgotiag (Moncton, New Brunswick) and online from September 16th to 23rd, 2021.

CDA will be hosting their biennial Gathering with meaningful shared experiences of togetherness as the central impetus. Titled Holding Space, Holding Change, the Gathering is an occasion to identify and reflect on pertinent social, political and environmental movements of this dance generation. What has led us to this point now, and where do we want to go? We are gathering with a specific focus on sustainability, sharing stories from the past, finding new ways to listen and learn from each other in the present, and dreaming about what we are bringing into the future of Canadian dance.

Sustainability: Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs. More than that, sustainability implies responsible and proactive decision-making and innovation that minimizes negative impact and maintains a balance between ecological resilience, economic prosperity, political justice and cultural vibrancy to ensure a desirable planet for all species now and in the future.

Holding Space, Holding Change will occur in parallel to Atlantic Ballet’s IMPACTfest, a national gathering and celebration of ground breaking dance works from across Canada. Over the course of 10 days, audiences are invited to experience innovative performances, workshops, film and artists talks offered in a variety of spaces throughout the community. IMPACTfest is curated to support artists who self identify as equity seeking. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to engage, learn, and share with us.

Move, unite, learn, reflect.
