2010 National Conference

The Canadian Dance Assembly hosted its 5th National Conference, Planning for Change: Creating a Dynamic Future for Dance in partnership with the CanDance Network. The 2010 year conference took place in Toronto, Ontario from September 23-25.  CDA also worked in partnership with the CCI-Ontario Presenting Network as they presented the Ontario Dance Platform 2010.  This platform was a curated program of dance performances and presentations that showcased an ever expanding range and diversity of professional dance in Ontario.

This year’s conference keynote speaker was Simon Brault, Vice-Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts and author of Le Facteur C – L’avenir passe par la culture and its English counterpart, No Culture, No Future. Other conference highlights included provocative discussions around mapping the sector and cultivating a dance plan. Participants learned about models that have been established in other countries by listening to guest speakers Caroline Miller and Susanne Burns from the UK and also heard about the significant research that has taken place in Canada as Lorraine Hébert, from the Regroupement québécois de la danse, speaking about the work of the États Généraux.

It was inspiring and invigorating to gather the national community and learn from each other, share ideas and make new connections. I hope each of you were able to walk away with something new to take back to your communities so that we may continue to grow and flourish TOGETHER. We look forward to the next opportunity to gather once again!
